DCP southeast, Romil Baaniya said the incident took place when the 14-year-old girl was sleeping. The investigators, in their interaction with the girl's relatives and neighbours, learnt that it was the girl's 10-year-old brother and 12-year-old nephew who did it. She was sent to a hospital for counselling, the police said. "Her parents have given this in writing", the DCP said.

On Friday, two fresh cases of chopped braids were reported but no official complaint was made. Police have again appealed to people to stay calm and avoid spreading rumours.

One incident was reported from Mayapuri, while another was from South-East Delhi's Ambedkar Nagar.

"So far, no miscreant has been caught in CCTV cameras, nor has any suspicious movement been witnessed by people known to the victim", a senior Delhi police officer said.

In Kapashera, a 53-year-old complained that she fell unconscious in the bathroom and found her hair chopped when she regained consciousness.

"Her chopped off hair was lying next to her".
