The Department of Public Works sent out notices that Henrico County had trapped mosquitoes and found they tested positive for West Nile virus. Two samples collected on Wednesday in Holyoke tested positive for the virus.
So far this year, Ontario Public Health has reported four "confirmed or probable" human cases of West Nile virus and 64 West Nile positive mosquito pools from 17 different health units.
The virus has been found in the northern house mosquito, an insect that likes to live and breed around humans, and one that has been discovered in urbanized areas of Ottawa.
"Most of the people who get West Nile virus infection, they may actually not have symptoms or very mild symptoms - maybe a fever, just generally feeling unwell for a few days".
Take extra precautions from dusk to dawn when mosquito activity is high.
