Aaron Nola continues to shine as Phillies top Mets

Mets' latest loss comes with Steven Matz silver lining

Aaron Nola continues to shine as Phillies top Mets | Rapid reaction

Nola (9-7, 3.02 ERA) stifled the Mets for seven innings, allowing one earned run and two hits while striking out eight batters in the Phillies' come-from-behind victory.

Nola's ERA is down to just 3.02, and by the time the season's over, there's a very strong chance he'll have one in the 2.00's. The 24-year-old has given up 10 runs in nine innings over two career meetings with the Mets.

Just prior to the first pitch, the Mets removed second baseman Neil Walker from the starting lineup and replaced him with Jose Reyes as reports circulated Walker had been traded to the Brewers.

Matz's slump continued in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, when he was reached for five runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Yoenis Cespedes homered for the second straight night and gave the Mets a 1-0 lead in the fourth. NY improved to 33-15 at Citizens Bank Park since the start of the 2015 season, which includes wins in all five meetings at Philadelphia this year. He surrendered only two hits and two walks in the effortless win.

Tommy Joseph went 0-3 with a walk.

Considering Matz entered with an 11.03 ERA over his previous six starts, the Mets certainly will take what they received. The Mets were held to three hits overall. But he gave up four hits in the inning - the only Phillies hits through the first seven frames - including consecutive two-out singles by Cesar Hernandez and Freddy Galvis.
