Merkel doesn't speak for US on North Korea

Stephen Colbert mocks Donald Trump with opening monologue on the Late Show

The talk show host asked what was tougher than'fire and fury

"It is critical that the Trump administration exhaust all diplomatic options before resorting to military force", Cicilline wrote. Donald Trump's decision to explicitly threaten North Korea as part of his escalating war of words with Kim Jong Un has made the nightmare scenario feel more likely than ever.

The tweet was one of several Trump sent Friday.

Trump dialed up the rhetoric early Friday, tweeting that the USA military is "locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely".

Trump was referring to the fact that China helps prop up the Kim Jong Un regime economically by taking in North Korea exports.

Klingner previously told TheBlaze that when it comes to North Korea, the U.S.is "in it for the long haul".

Cicilline said Trump "has made a risky situation even worse by recklessly asserting that the United States is "locked and loaded" to bring "fire and fury" to North Korea".

"This legislation, which maintains the President's ability to immediately retaliate against a nuclear strike, will provide an opportunity to reduce tensions and prevent a catastrophic nuclear confrontation", Cicilline said.

So far, however, America's allies have been slow to react to North Korea's aggressive nuclear ambitions.

Lavrov said Russian Federation doesn't accept the North's nuclear weapons bid and pointed at a proposal by China and Russian Federation under which Pyongyang would freeze its nuclear and missile tests while the USA and South Korea would halt their military drills. And so, we have a North Korean, we're not really sure. Trump, in true Trump fashion, doubled down on his previous comments, saying that "maybe it wasn't tough enough".

German Chancellor Angela Merkel says she doesn't see a military solution to rising tensions between the United States and North Korea and called for a de-escalation of the rhetoric.

Colbert pounced on the remark: "What is tougher than 'fire and fury?'" he asked.

"Hopefully, Kim Jong Un will find another path!" the president said.
