Why Ahmed Musa did not join Hull City before transfer deadline

Derby County ran riot against away-day strugglers Hull City to record their third win of the season and move up to fifth in the Championship on Friday evening.

Matej Vydra and Bradley Johnson each bagged a brace as Derby dismantled Hull, whose wretched form on the road continued to haunt them in a humiliating 5-0 defeat at Pride Park Stadium.

Hull City manager, Leonid Slutsky, has confirmed that the club was keen on signing Ahmed Musa from Leicester City, before the summer transfer window closed on August 31.

The visitors started quckly and Vydra made the Hull backline aware of his presence after two minutes, although his ambitious overhead kick went wide of Allan McGregor's goal.

That chance took on even more significance as Derby double their lead in the 33rd minute.

Derby made it 3-0 five minutes later when former Hull man Curtis Davies was left unmarked in the penalty box and headed home from close range though he didn't celebrate against his old club.

It was now a case of damage limitation for Hull but after Jarrod Bowen just failed to connect with a diving header, they handed Derby a fifth in the 58th minute. It was Johnson on target for a second time as he placed a shot into the bottom corner beyond the luckless McGregor in the Hull goal.

Hull have not won on their travels since October a year ago and have suffered 19 losses in 22 games during that period.
