Airtel offers 4G smartphone in partnership with Karbonn at Rs1,399

Unlike the JioPhone, the Airtel 4G phone comes with dual SIM dual standby support and offers 4G VoLTE along with 2G and 3G connectivity.

Under Airtel's scheme, you'll have to pay Rs 2899 as a down payment for the Karbonn handset.

The telecom provider plans to roll out more phones in coming days in the affordable range.

The telecom operator detailed just how the Karbonn A40 Indian, which was launched back in July and is said to now have a market price of Rs. 3,499, will be available at an "effective price" of Rs. 1,399.

However the actual payment for the phone is much higher. "This is yet another step in our ongoing journey to deeply understand customers and bring innovation that delights them", Raj Pudipeddi, director, Consumer Business & CMO, Bharti Airtel said. They would then have to make at least Rs 3000 worth of recharges for the first 18 months to get Rs 500 as cashback. Reliance Jio has 130 million 4G subscribers. Those making the 36 recharge will get a refund of Rs 500 after the first 18 months and a further Rs 1,000 refund after the next 18 months.

In case the customer does not wish to opt for the Rs 169 bundled plan, she/he has the flexibility of doing recharges of any denomination and validity as per individual requirements, the company said. The second phase gets you Rs. 1,000 cashback on recharge worth Rs. 3,000 more in the next 18 months.

This is a comparison between Airtel smartphone and Reliance Jio Phone based on pricing and offers.

Airtel also added that this would be 'the first of several partnerships'.

Earlier in July Airtel had cited in an investor call that it would look to partner with mobile handset manufacturers to bring 'bundled 4G smartphone options to the market'. The Airtel phone offers access to all apps on Google Play Store, including YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp. Late last month, we heard about Airtel launching its 4G smartphone in India for under ₹2000, and now today, the company has announced its partnership with Indian smartphone brand Karbonn to bring you the Karbonn A40 Indian - an affordable 4G smartphone. The processor is supported by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It sports a 4-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) display on the front and is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core processor. It comes with a 2-megapixel camera on the rear and a 0.3-megapixel camera on the front. This is directly in response to Reliance Jio and their 4G feature phone, JioPhone, that has begun shipping to millions of customers at an effective price of Rs 1,500.

The phone will be available on all leading retail stores across the country and after-sales service will be provided by Karbonn mobiles.

It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat and supports 22 Indian regional languages. But the Karbonn phone - the A40 India comes with very basic specifications.
