"Additionally, it is also recommended that a seasonal vaccine be taken for the most vulnerable groups, including health care workers, pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy, the elderly, and patients with chronic illnesses, such as HIV/AIDS and those taking immunosuppressive drugs, and pilgrims". The seasonal quadrivalent vaccine also includes influenza B vaccine virus, a B/Phuket/3073/2013-like virus (Yamagata lineage).

Flu vaccine will protect you from certain strains of influenza but it can not prevent flu caused by other virus strains not covered by the vaccine or illnesses that look like influenza, but are not. About 5 percent to 20 percent of the US population gets the flu each year.

The flu vaccine is safe and does not cause the flu, states the Arkansas Department of Health.
