Android Video Calling Just Got Much Simpler

Starting today, a few handsets will be able to send a Duo video chat from a trio of Android apps

Verizon stores will have the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL on display starting tomorrow

The company will let Android users start a video call directly from within the Google Phone, Contacts, and stock Messages app. Not only just the normal Duo Call over the Internet, the Google also says that they will be enabling a Video Call feature over 4G LTE Network, aka ViLTE. In Contacts, next to your contact's name, the option to make a Duo video call will surface. As the flagship devices from the creator of the platform we know and love, the new Google phones are highly anticipated products. And in the Android Messages app, you can begin a video chat directly from your conversation.

If both the caller and the recipient are on a carrier that supports ViLTE video calling, the calls will be routed through the carrier's ViLTE service.

Google clears that users will have to run the latest versions of the Phone (v13.0), Contacts (v2.1), and Android Messages (v2.6) app to support the feature. Charlston's comments would indicate so, but knowing Google's history of shipping devices, it's not a certainty; perhaps call ahead if you're thinking about making a trip. Starting this week, owners of select Android smartphones will be able to make Duo calls right from their device's Android Phone, Contacts, and Android Messages apps.
