The long-gestating X-Men spin-off movie Gambit, that was all set to star Channing Tatum (and still is, we think), has thus far appointed and lost both Rupert Wyatt and Doug Liman as director. Gambit has a script by Josh Zetumer and is produced by Tatum, Reid Carolin, Simon Kinberg, Lauren Shuler Donner. This wouldn't be the first X-Men movie to come out around Valentine's Day, as Deadpool had the biggest February opening ever.
On Thursday, Fox also set a December 25, 2019, release date for Chris Sanders' "The Call of the Wild" and a November 6, 2020, release date for "Ron's Gone Wrong". The character belongs to a subspecies of humans called mutants, and has the ability to mentally create, control, and manipulate pure kinetic energy - as well as being skilled in card throwing and hand-to-hand combat. The character was first played by Taylor Kitsch in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. but it failed to take off as the studio expected.
Gambit will be going up against New Line/Warner Bros' comedy Isn't It Romantic, starring Rebel Wilson and Liam Hemsworth.
