Robbie Lawler set to take on Rafael dos Anjos Dec. 16

Two former UFC champions in Robbie Lawler and Rafael dos Anjos will square off in the main event at UFC Winnipeg on December 16, the heralded mixed martial arts promotion has formally announced. Standing in his way is another former world champion looking to cement his own place at the top of the division.

Dos Anjos (27-9) is also a former champion, at the 155-pound lightweight division.

The fight will headline UFC on FOX 26, which will take place in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After being knocked out by Tyron Woodley at UFC 201 in July 2016, he spent a year away from the cage before returning at UFC 214 this past July.

The fight for Lawler, now ranked as the No. 1 contender to Woodley's throne, will be just his second since losing the belt.

Lawler has fought in some of the UFC's all-time great wars, including wins over Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit.

Since moving up, dos Anjos is 2-0, including a one-sided submission victory over Neil Magny at UFC 215 last month.

In another light-heavyweight bout, 11th-ranked Brazilian Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (22-7) will meet 15th-ranked American Jared Cannonier (10-2). The eighth-ranked Cirkunov, from Toronto, has won eight of his last nine fights. This is a fight that has the potential to be fantastic, and the victor, could very well lock up a title shot.

Still, the night featured two future UFC champions in Woodley and current heavyweight titleholder Stipe Miocic. More fights are expected to be added.
