TWO school girls died and another was critically injured after they were run over by a speeding vehicle on the Baramati Morgaon Road on Thursday morning.

According to police, three girls were going to their school via Baramati-Morgaon Road around 8 am, when a auto hit the girls.

CNN-News18 reported that the vehicle belonged to Shiv Sena's Baramati chief Pappu Mane. "Both the girls died on the spot while the third girl sustained injuries and was rushed to a hospital", a police officer said.

The incident took place at around 7.30 am when the girls were walking on the side of the road to go to school in Kare Wagaj village on Baramati-Morgaon road in Baramati tehsil, around 115 kilometers from Pune.

Both the news channels reported that angry locals burnt the Shiv Sena leader's vehicle after the incident.

The arrested trio are identified as Akash Jagtap, Hrishikesh Chavadhar, and Prithviraj Chavan, all residents of Baramati.

However, Times Now reported that Mane himself was driving the vehicle and also said that apart from him, there were two other people in the auto.

Police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under section 304 and other relevant sections of Indian Penal Code. "We have summoned him for questioning", he said, adding the law and order situation in the area was under control.
