The government has published its Clean Growth Strategy

In a foreword to the strategy document, Prime Minister Theresa May said clean growth was "not an option, but a duty we owe to the next generation" and emphasised that protecting the environment "also benefits our wider economic prosperity".

Energy Institute CEO, Louise Kingham, said: "The strategy is really important for the UK's standing on the global climate change stage, as we look to the next round of United Nations talks hosted by Fiji in Bonn next month".

The new Clean Growth Strategy sets out how more than £2.5 billion will be invested to support low carbon innovation from 2015 to 2021. The world is moving from being powered by polluting fossil fuels to clean energy.

The UK's nascent ultra low emission vehicles sector is set to benefit from a promised £1bn investment to support the take up of EVs and other low carbon road vehicles, with the government also promising to develop "one of the best electric vehicle charging networks in the world" by investing an additional £80m in charging infrastructure.

Low-carbon innovation is at the heart of the government's approach, climate change and industry minister Claire Perry said in a written statement to parliament.

On day prior to the release of the Clean Growth Strategy, the BEIS confirmed that up to £557 million will be available to support less established renewable electricity projects during the next CfD auction, now planned for the spring of 2019.
