Since no Nationals manager has won the National League Division Series, he is among their most successful.

Baker ends up with a.593 winning percentage in his two seasons, best among any of the six men who have held this job since 2005. The team said it will work with its new manager to fill those positions.

Before the series against the Cubs began, Baker was asked about his possible future in Washington. "They told me they would get back to me and I told them I was leaving town yesterday and they waited 10 days to tell me".

He expected negotiations to pick up after the season ended.

He led the club to consecutive National League East titles while going a combined 192-132.

In 2016, Baker's first in Washington, the club was 95-67, and he finished third in voting for N.L. Manager of the Year.

Baker's contract was set to expire after the season, and following back-to-back first-round exits from the playoffs, the Nationals have decided not to bring back the 68-year-old manager.

He was a player in the majors for 19 years.

"I think that's a decision made from up top", Harper said in his final public comments.

Despite having what some already consider may be one of the best players of all-time in Bryce Harper, the main reason why Baker was let go was because of his team's poor performance and resolve in the postseason. That's a great group of guys in there.

Other teams now looking for a manager include two other members of the N.L. East: the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies.
