Google launches native add-ons for Gmail

In March, Google announced that it would soon internalize all the third-party Gmail add-ons. Gmail add-ons are now live.

Add-ons simplify your workflow because they allow you to perform certain actions (that so far would have required jumping to other apps) straight in Gmail.

These add-ons are mostly aimed at business users looking to delegate tasks throughout their organizations or with freelancers - but everyday users might find some use for the new extensions, too.

The blog post from Google also mentions an 11th Gmail Add-on for DocuSign, but they were unable to get things ready for launch. So if you're familiar with any of these services then you'll definitely want to check out the new add-on that is available for Google's email service. The first partners include Asana, Trello, DialPad, Intuit QuickBooks, and Wrike.

Gmail Add-ons can "contextually surface your go-to app" based on the contents of a message. With that announcement, Gmail add-ons launched into developer preview, and now after a fairly significant testing phase, the feature is entering wide release.

The goal here is to enable integration with various business applications directly from within Gmail so you don't have to leave the application or web browser to complete a task on another service. Just head to the top right corner of the inbox and hit the setting wheel and click "Get add-ons". Since the add-ons are now available on both Android and desktop, it will be enough to install them on one platform - you'll be able to access them from all your devices.
