Diesel's update confirmed that another familiar face, Jordana Brewster, is set to make her on-screen return in the next film. The latter will be starring in a spinoff movie featuring his character Hobbs, who will be teaming up with Jason Statham's Shaw for a new adventure.
Diesel teased the announcement by saying, "Think forefathers of Fast, the architects of the Fast saga". Lin was also one of the people responsible for heightening the stakes of the franchise and bringing out of the small-time world of street racing.

Brewster last appeared as Mia Toretto in 2015's Furious 7, which also marked the final film for Paul Walker before his death in a tragic auto accident. With the last Fast & Furious movies making over $1 billion at the box office, it's an extremely important franchise for Universal (especially since their Dark Universe seems like it's dead in the water), so it's not surprising that they would court Lin to return to put the franchise back on the right path. In "Fate of the Furious", there was a brief mention of Brian and the more peaceful life he now lives with Mia.
