Padmavati row: Supreme Court dismisses petition seeking a ban on film's release

The film is based on Rani Padmini, a legendary Hindu Rajput queen, mentioned in Padmavat, an Avadhi language epic poem, written by Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540. The song "Ek Dil Ek Jaan" is pictured on Deepika Padukone, the leading lady of the film, and Shahid Kapoor, who will be seen as Maharawal Ratan Singh of Chittorgarh.

For the record Padmavati is yet to be submitted to the CBFC for censor certification. You watch cinema and enjoy it. Bhansali was previously given threats against the release of the film, especially in Rajasthan.

Johar, whose last directorial venture "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil", featuring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Imran Abbas, had a hard time in getting a smooth release, was also present at the event.

"It's unfortunate to see the personal point of view expressed by an advisory panel member of the CBFC against Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali".

The movie, which also stars Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji, is all set to hit the theatres on December 1.

The group has been constantly seeking ban on the release of the film, which they claim is distorting the history.

During the shooting of the film, there were rumours that there will be a dream sequence between Khilji and Rani Padmavati in the film.
