They all belonged to Prakasam and Nellore districts. "For more than an hour, no one tried to pull the people stuck under the tourist boat", an eye-witness said.

The ill-fated boat was being operated by a private company and was said to be on a trial run.

Twenty people died in September when a boat packed with labourers capsized on the Yamuna river in northern India.

The NDRF said three teams of it are now performing operation. About seven feet water is there in the river.

As the boat was approaching the ferry point at around 5.45 pm, it suddenly overturned, apparently due to overloading as there were 38 passengers as against its capacity of 24. As many as 20 passengers wearing life jackets were brought ashore with the help of trained swimmers and local fishermen. Andhra Pradesh DGP Sambha Shiva Rao confirmed recovery of 11 bodies.
