When Apple was detailing this feature, it said that even Hollywood-quality face masks can't fool the Face ID.

Researchers at the security firm Bkav have claimed that they can fool Face ID with a custom-made mask. The video shows that this proof of concept works.

According to the firm, the recognition mechanism is not as strict as one thinks and Apple seems to rely too much on Face ID's AI.

As for biometric security, fingerprint is the best, said the firm which discovered the first critical flaw in Google Chrome just days after its launch in 2008.

However, it said that though the smartphone's face recognition technology may have failed in the experiment; it may not be a problem for the common man.

Rather than striving hard to develop a software to break iPhone X's Face ID, the team at Bkav built a special mask with the aim of tricking the depth-mapping technology.

Bkav claims this proves facial recognition is "not mature enough" to trust on smartphones and PCs, and if substantiated by others makes it clear that it will not be able to protect your data if you are the subject of a targeted attack. They have also released a video showing how the mask that they have created manages to defeat the Face ID technology. Areas that have special materials include the nose which is made of silicone and the frame which is 3D printed. It would need a detailed, near-exact digital scan.

It's definitely a bump for Apple's share price that has increased with the preorders for iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. The survey showed around 50% of the users who intend to buy the 256GB model costing around $1149!
