Search underway for Irish woman in her 20s missing in France since Wednesday

However, and tragically, the body of the UCC graduate and Feakle native was found after Eimear sustained a fall while out running in the French countryside.

Eimear Noonan (21) had lived in Annonay in the South East of France where she worked as a teaching assistant in a local school.

Friends & family members have taken to social media as part of efforts to help find Eimear, appealing for any assistance in tracking her down.

"French authorities have confirmed the heartbreaking news that our beloved Eimear died following a fall while running on Wednesday", wrote her brother Cathal.

An official at the prefecture of the Ardèche department said gendarmes believe Ms Noonan's death was an accident. "There wasn't much water but she appears to have drowned because she was unconscious".

Noonan was last seen on Wednesday afternoon in Annonay were she had gone shopping. Her parents arrived in Annonay with the Irish Consul on Saturday.

According to the news website France Bleu, the manager of the guest house where Ms Noonan was staying notified French police of her absence on Friday.
