U.S. District Judge William Walls read a note from the 12 jurors stating they failed to reach a unanimous decision after about 2 hours of deliberation. Today the jury in his bribery trial told the judge they were deadlocked on all counts.

"You are starting fresh", the judge said. "Forget about what happened last week".

In an unusual tell-all to CNN and other news outlets last week, Evelyn Arroyo-Maultsby, formerly juror No. 8, revealed the divisions among jurors over the multi-count indictment Menendez is facing and suggested "it's going to be a hung jury".

During arguments in a Newark, New Jersey, courtroom, prosecutors painted 63-year-old Menendez as the "personal senator" to Florida ophthalmologist, Dr. Salomon Melgen.

"(Prosecutors) just didn't show me enough, and I just wish I wasn't going on vacation", Arroyo-Maultsby said. On Monday, an alternate was brought in to replace her. The only question remaining is how many more days the judge will demand jurors deliberate before he throws in the towel and declares a mistrial. "And I want you to come back here tomorrow to continue deliberations", Walls said, according to Politico.

A juror who was excused from the trial on Thursday gave a glimpse into deliberations, saying most jurors favored acquittal and that she would have cast a not-guilty vote for the New Jersey Democrat on all counts.

Although jurors are supposed to tune out of media coverage related to the Menendez trial, some jurors told Walls on Monday that they had heard Arroyo-Maultsby's remarks. Walls said the comments have had no effect on the jury and told the attorneys, "She was on your side".

Should Walls formally declare a mistrial, former federal prosecutors predict that the Justice Department would ultimately refile the charges.

Prosecutors in Menendez case said Melgen had offered up his private jet for the two-term senator's use, showered him with luxury trips and steered more than $750,000 in campaign contributions to entities supporting Menendez.
