It's certainly not impossible, and Sony has already demonstrated a desire to capture some of the MCU's success with its previous attempt to create spinoffs from the Amazing Spider-Man films.
Details on Sony's take are sparse thus far, except that these spin-offs they're developing will not be connected to Sony's Tom Holland movies and are not connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that is being produced by Marvel Studios. The character, named Dr. Michael Morbius, was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane, and first appeared in 1963's Amazing Spider-Man #101. The character gained his thirst for blood, which needs to survive, after running experiments on himself in order to cure a rare blood disease. He's had several run-ins with Spider-Man and has been a heroic figure from time to time. His physical appearance was transformed to become more bat-like, making him one of the more striking monsters in the Marvel universe. Sharpless and Sazama also have some supernatural action films under their collective belts; although, since those films are Dracula Untold, The Last Witch Hunter and Gods of Egypt, Marvel fans may not be too thrilled with having them on board.
There have been conflicting reports on if Sony's spin-off projects will be connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Tom Holland is now playing the web-slinger in those films. As of yet, there's no director or star on board the Morbius movie, but we know it won't be connected to Tom Holland's iteration of Spider-Man. They've got a Venom stand-alone film in the works, as well as Black Cat and Silver Sable being in development.
Furthermore, Sony has not mentioned how they will be reinventing the character of Morbius or if they will sticking to canon material.
