Trudeau airs concern on Philippine killings

Trudeau has said that Trump is a good listener and that his mind can be changed when needed

The Canadian Prime Minister's main event here is the ASEAN-Canada 40th Commemorative Summit slated Tuesday, which will celebrate dialogue relations between Canada and ASEAN that started in February 1977.

Trudeau said Canada had a reputation for being frank in discussing issues like the rule of law and human rights with partners everywhere.

Aside from this, Trudeau also discussed the garbage issue with the Philippine President saying that Canada is very much engaged in finding a solution on that issue.

Trudeau said Canada will continue to be a part of global efforts to fight worldwide terrorism and will work to ensure that "there are consequences for anyone engaged in terrorist hostage taking".

"As I mentioned to President Duterte, we are concerned with human rights, with the extrajudical kilings".

"I expressed to President Duterte the assurance of my officials both here and the Philippines and back in Canada that we will continue to work on this and hopefully resolve the situation", he later added. "I will always bring that up", Trudeau told reporters in a media briefing after the summit. "Throughout, it was a cordial and positive exchange", he said.

"We know that talking about human rights is an essential part of a path forward".

Nevertheless, Trudeau admitted that Canada is not ideal either as they are also being criticized for human rights violation concerning their indigenous tribes who suffered from neglect marginalization and mistreatment.
