Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech said finishing above rivals Tottenham in the Premier League is not their priority, adding Mauricio Pochettino's side must win a trophy to prove how far they have come under the Argentine.

Arsenal trail Pochettino's side by four points going into Saturday's north London derby, though the Czech worldwide insists that The Gunners focus remains exclusively on adding more silverware.

'No I don't think so, ' Cech said when asked by Sky Sports whether there had been a changing of the guard in north London over the last few seasons.

The Belgian midfielder has found it hard to get back into the Tottenham Hotspur starting line-up, but could be a key player in this weekend's London derby against Arsenal.

But Cech insists the title - and not just leapfrogging Tottenham - is still the Gunners' target.

"Success is ultimately winning trophies".

'We were under pressure the last couple of years, people talking about winning trophies, obviously we are disappointed not to have won the title but we won FA Cups. "Although the season was not always what we wanted, we always had a trophy at the end of it".

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger's side missed out on Champions League football with a fifth-placed finish but ended the season by lifting their third FA Cup in four years.

Pochettino's Spurs have challenged for the league title over the last two seasons, while their recent victories over Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have placed them among the top clubs in the Champions League.

Mousa Dembele is undoubtedly one of the most talented players in the Tottenham Hotspur squad, but the midfielder has endured a frustrating start to the campaign.

He added: "I still see Manchester United as the main title rivals for City this season, with Jose Mourinho's record being key, while he should have Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to come back when you really need those big-game players to make an impact".
