REPORT: Alabama could be home to Toyota/Mazda plant

North Carolina is a finalist to be home to a Toyota Motor Corp. and Mazda Motor Corp. joint auto factory worth $1.6 billion, Bloomberg reports.

Several states were in the running for the massive plant.

It is worth mentioning that Toyota and Mazda are investing in the construction of a production site of about 1.6 billion dollars, and object input in operation is planned for 2021.

In August, the two Japanese carmakers confirmed they will also set up a new, $1.6 billion assembly plant in the United States that will create up to 4,000 new jobs. Representatives of both companies do not comment on the data, however, insiders claim that experts brands abandoned the idea to build a plant in Texas, Tennessee and SC.

The Randolph County Planning Board voted in the affirmative Tuesday night on a rezoning request that would add 370 acres to the 1,500-acre mega-site south of Greensboro. There are two megasites in Chatham County, one in Edgecombe County and one on the Guilford-Randolph counties border.

Toyota's collaboration with Mazda goes beyond the shared plant.

According to a formal announcement earlier this year by the two companies, their alliance will be far reaching and will see Toyota acquire a 5% stake in Mazda, the smaller maker taking a stake in its new partner, as well.
