John Oliver questions Dustin Hoffman over groping allegations

He told Hoffman: "It is reflective of who you were". According to the column, when asked what he wanted for breakfast one morning, Hoffman replied to the PA, "I'll have a hard-boiled egg ... and a soft-boiled clitoris". He denied the groping and said he didn't even recall meeting Hunter. "Because the crew and the actors are there, we are one, we are a family".

Oliver continued, "It is reflective of who you were".

He went on: "If it happened and you've given no evidence to show it didn't happen then there was a period of time for a while when you were a creeper around women".

"It feels like a cop-out to say 'it wasn't me".

One of the worst moments, as you can watch in the video below, shows Hoffman questioning why someone would wait 40 years to say something after Oliver notes that there's basically no upside for the accusers in these situations.

"That is both extremely generous and damning", Oliver said. "We have a platform here". This conversation, as uncomfortable as it was, is exactly the kind of frank confrontation that needs to happen if this cultural moment of reckoning is going to move forward.

"I still don't know who this woman is".

Hoffman talked about how he starred in the 1982 movie "Tootsie".

According to The Washington Post, Hoffman accused Oliver of making an "incredible assumption about me", adding sarcastically: "You've made the case better than anyone else can". "They didn't find me attractive and they just erased me".

Hoffman described how his co-workers were "a family", who sometimes said stupid sexual things, that were meant to be amusing. At the time, Hunter was a 17-year-old intern.

Parents of bullying victim who hanged herself are targeted by sick trolls
They say their daughter, who dreamed of becoming a lawyer, was driven to suicide by middle school bullies in California. She has been on life support for a almost a week and her parents had planned to turn it off on Monday night.

Hoffman admitted his comment was "sexual in terms of the humor of it" but reasoned "that's 40 years ago". "Dustin's a pig, but I like him a lot".

"I believe what she wrote, yes", Oliver replied.

Since then, Hoffman, 80, has blamed "the atmosphere" of the 1980s for his actions, suggesting sexual harassment was more accepted back then.

Again, none of these other claims about Hoffman came up during Monday night's panel discussion.

'And now the audience is arguing volubly back and forth about whether Hoffman is upstanding and Oliver should be asking the questions. Oliver didn't let up as things progressed.

Hoffman asked that Oliver "keep an open mind" about the claims made against hime. Maybe I shouldn't have said things.

"Am I the powerful man?"

Oliver received applause, saying there probably needs to be a culture shift surrounding the lag time Hoffman described.

The incident took place amidst a widening of a sexual abuse scandal across Hollywood following the emergence of allegations against movie producer Harvey Weinstein, which has also implicated the likes of Kevin Spacey, CK Louis, and Brett Ratner. "You break it up", he said.
