Reliance JioPhone gets this 'exclusive' Google feature

To help bikers find the most suitable route in India, Google on Tuesday incorporated navigation routes for two-wheelers with Voice Assistant capabilities in its Maps feature. These Go apps were launched alongside Android Oreo Go, an optimized version of Android Oreo for entry-level smartphones.

As part of today's Google I/O keynote address, the company officially announced Android Go.

Currently, there are almost 400 million Internet users in India along with over 300 million smartphone users. Yet, we have over 900 million Indians who aren't connected to Internet.

Google Assistant is finally getting the third-party integration in India.

Google has said that Google Go is fast even on entry level devices and spotty connections, making discovering, sharing and finding content easier and more reliable.

Google also unveiled special navigation apps tailored for two wheelers - people who can not keep checking the phone's display as they ride.

The company announced "Files Go", a new app that helps free up space, find files faster and share files offline with people nearby.

The company also brought bill payment facilities on its digital payment app "Tez". Google Tez, starting today supports bill payments directly from the Google Tez application itself.

Within months of launch, Tez has already seen 140 million transactions and accounted for 70 per cent of the country's UPI transactions in the months of October and November. There are 500 million feature phone users in India alone (out of a total market of 780 million), so there's clearly some untapped potential.

Martha Welsh, Google Maps' strategic partner development manager, said, of the decision to start in India: "It's important that we get this right".

Two-wheeler mode in Google Maps to help provide short-cut routes to motorcycle and scooter riders. After its announcement and launch in May 2016, this is the first time that the tool comes to a feature phone.

Tech giant Google today unveiled a slew of new solutions, such as Android Oreo Go edition for low-priced smartphones and a bike mode for Maps, aimed at driving Internet adoption across markets, including India.
