Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Tuesday stormed the Wadata House headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja where he met some leaders of the party, including the caretaker chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.

The don also said the character of whosoever emerged as the PDP national chairman would determine the level of discipline and internal democracy in the party.

"We should remember that those of us, who founded this party, founded it on the principles of democracy, good governance, and unity of this country and the prosperity of its people".

"Nigerians should note one very interesting thing in the politics of Nigeria today; in the past, it used to be that people decamp or leave the party that has lost election or that is in opposition to the party that is ruling". It is believed that Atiku's resignation from the ruling party was timed to coincide with the PDP convention where he is expected to seek the support of the party members towards his quest to be elected as the party's presidential candidate. "That is what PDP must stand for if it has to survive", he added.

"If the delegates have the interest of the party at heart, they must shun all forms of financial inducement and vote according to their conscience".

"As a united party, we have the capacity and we have the ability to do so".

The APC national chairman further assured that Atiku's exit from the party would not lead to massive defection from APC as being insinuated in some quarters in the country.

Due to an internal party crisis he defected to the APC in the run-up to the 2015 presidential election before losing the party's ticket to another eventual victor, President Buhari.
