John Travolta film cancelled a week before release

Less than a fortnight before its release date of December 15th, Lionsgate, the movie's distributor, has pulled "Gotti" from its schedule and sold it back to its original producers.

Beverly Hills-based production company Emmett/Furla Oasis Films bought the film back from Lionsgate, Variety, Entertainment Weekly, SFGate and other sources report.

Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Anthony Hopkins were all down to portray Gotti in the film but the part eventually ended up with John Travolta.

Producers are trying to secure new distribution, The Tracking Board noted.

Fiore Films originally acquired life rights from John Gotti Jr., the son of the late head of the Gambino crime family.

Directed by former Entourage actor Kevin Connelly, Gotti began shooting in July of a year ago and features Travolta's wife Kelly Preston as the crime lord's spouse Victoria Gotti. It's directed by Kevin Connolly ("Entourage"), and written by Lem Dobbs ("The Limey") and Leo Rossi.

The producers wanted a wider release for the film so executed the buy back clause when an outside investor offered to release the film in May 2018.
