"The news that the USA administration will recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital is extremely worrying".

Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Washington, Prince Khalid bin Salman, said on Monday that any usa announcement on the status of Jerusalem before a final settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would harm the peace process and increase regional tensions.

Trump will formally make the announcements Wednesday, according to senior administration officials.

Moving the embassy at this stage, the King warned, would have implications on the Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim scene, and would threaten the two-state solution; it could be potentially exploited by terrorists to stoke anger, frustration and desperation in order to spread their ideologies.

Since 1967, Abu Irshaid said, the city has been recognized by every USA administration, along with the worldwide community, as territories that belong to the Palestinians that Israel occupies. The Palestinians have warned that such a move could destroy the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and lead to renewed conflict and violence.

As a holy city claimed by the three major Abrahamic faiths, Jerusalem is very sensitive matter, according to Secretary General of the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations Oussama Jammal.

Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting, Bozdag said Jerusalem's status had been determined by global agreements.

Such a declaration would break with decades of United States policy and could fuel violence in the Middle East.

"Should the two-state solution receive that final lethal blow, then the main reaction from us will be strategic and political because we are not going to be engaged in an empty process", Zomlot said.

Abbas has been discussing with several world leaders on the consequences of a possible US decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and relocate the USA embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, in addition to the latest action by Jewish settler groups inside the Al-Aqsa mosque compound.

Hensgen believes the plan would not serve US interests but only complicate peace talks to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Yesterday, Safadi spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and stressed the need to preserve the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and not to take any decision aimed at changing this status.
