NCAA president criticizes LaVar Ball for pulling son LiAngelo out of UCLA

The NCAA president wants the NBA to eliminate that rule so students stop "using" colleges to play one year of basketball, so his issue with the Ball family likely has more to do with that. But this is unchartered territory for two young basketball players, and it could end up backfiring on them if they don't make the right move.

Ball explained that he pulled his son off the team because the punishment had already gone on long enough and it wasn't clear when his son would be able to play again.

Ball drew the most attention in the incident because of his zany family who is always causing an uproar in the sports world. This national story grew with the intervention of Trump and Liangelo's father.

While on a recent overseas trip to Beijing, President Trump approached Chinese President Xi Jinping about the situation.

After receiving Trump's help in returning the three players back home, Ball's father, Lavar Ball, did not mince his words.

Asked Tuesday how Ball, who did not appear in a single game for UCLA, projects as an National Basketball Association prospect, Alford said he had "no idea on that".

LaVar Ball recently pulled LiAngelo Ball from UCLA after he was suspended indefinitely. In a new interview with TODAY, Ball said that his stay in China's jail was "horrible".
