Paul Scholes explains Luke Shaw's biggest problem at Manchester United

I was not unhappy with the players at all. He certainly took his opportunity well and on another day he could have ended the game with a goal and assist, getting a chance himself in the 20 minute and providing both Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford with chances both should have done better with.

And on top of his performance last night, Shaw has now received that rarest of beasts - public praise from Jose Mourinho, who singled out the former Southampton youngster for his fine performance and revealed that he would be rewarded with more opportunities as a result.

All in all, it's fair to say he has it all to do to become first-choice again, with United having experimented with Ashley Young in his position so far in the campaign.

"It's hard to say as we don't see what goes on behind the scenes, (but) I don't think he lives his life as clean as he possibly should do", Scholes said on BT Sports' coverage of the Champions League, before comparing the left-back's physique to that of Wayne Rooney.

Scholes questioned Shaw the most, and suggested that the 22-year-old has not been in Mourinho's plans because he hasn't been living a "clean" life.

"With his body shape, he looks like a player who needs to be playing every week".

Tottenham have been regularly linked, as part of a swap deal for Danny Rose. "But I think it doesn't matter which team we get in the draw - I don't think that team will be jumping with happiness to play against us".

If you don't think Luke Shaw would add anything to this current Spurs team, have a butchers @btsport 2 now.

It has to be said that a horror leg break in 2015 was the catalyst for his downturn in form, as he's never quite got back to the level he was before that injury against PSV Eindhoven. "A couple of years ago, I thought we were signing the best left back in the world".

Paul Pogba, who had starred in United's 3-1 win over Arsenal on the weekend before getting sent off for a rash challenge, was running the show once again and his through-balls to the galloping Shaw were creating havoc on the wings.
