If you're wondering when everyone's favourite Pokemon donned a life of solving crime, Detective Pikachu is an adventure video game released previous year in Japan, which saw a talking, intelligent Pikachu solve mysteries with a boy named Tim Goodman.

While not every Pikachu is a detective, the one that is Detective Pikachu is especially "good at finding things". Reynolds will play the titular Detective Pikachu. He'll star alongside Justice Smith, the young actor set to appear in the next Jurassic Park movie. Although the franchise started as video games, it now spans across multiple mediums including trading card games, animated television shows and movies, comic books, and toys. It's actually based on a Japan-only 3DS game where Pikachu solves mysteries of the strictly PG-kind.

Plus, with Reynolds cast as the lead, we would be hard-pressed to believe that Detective Pikachu will be anywhere near as sweet as Ash's Pikachu.
