Winless Browns fire VP of football operations

Report: Browns fire executive VP Sashi Brown

Former Chiefs GM John Dorsey is 'leading candidate' for Browns job

With Brown's departure, the franchise will be searching for a general manager for the ninth time since it returned to Cleveland in 1999. That was the only firing Jimmy Haslam administered Thursday, though, as the Browns' owner announced Hue Jackson will remain the team's coach in 2018.

Haslam also announced Jackson will remain as coach for next season. Jackson, though, took a much different approach with the media on Thursday in the wake of Brown's dismissal.

While Browns are now looking to finish 2017-18 on a high note, yet another No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick is likely on the horizon for the struggling AFC North franchise.

Going 1-27 would appear to have its repercussions as the Cleveland Browns have terminated the contract of executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

We worked hard. I am so grateful to the people I worked with throughout my four-plus years with the Browns, particularly the people I worked with the past two years.

Obviously, the Browns have not yet achieved the turnaround we wanted for a franchise and the best fans in the National Football League, who deserve it more than any other in sports. We need to ensure that we maximize our opportunity for success; with our picks, free agency and building our roster.

Brown and Jackson appeared to be at odds over several roster decisions and Haslam figured his best course of action was to end the relationship rather than attempting to fix it.

Brown was named the team's top executive by the Haslams during an overhaul following the 2015 season.

The Browns have three second-round picks in 2018 - theirs, and picks from the Eagles and Texans.

Brown's regime has been marked with strikeouts at the quarterback position, namely trading out of the No. 2 spot in the 2016 National Football League draft as Philadelphia moved up to select Carson Wentz.
