On Tuesday, a BJP delegation met Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala with a memorandum to issue directions to the state government to hand over investigation into the death of Mesta and other workers of Hindutva outfits in the state to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Rubbishing state Home Minister Ramalinga Reddys claim that Mestas death was not mysterious, she said he was ignoring eyewitnesses account that the victims face was blackened.
"The state government has made a decision to handover the inquiry into the death of Mesta to the CBI on the request of his father Kamalakar Mesta", Inspector General of Police, Western Range, Hemant Nimbalkar told IANS from Karwar.

Mesta's family and local residents alleged he was abducted and killed amid reports that the body bore marks of attack by sharp objects. The police deny this, and have released a copy of preliminary report by a forensic doctor who conducted the autopsy on December 8 to clarify there were no signs of torture on the body. Following the massive protests and violence over the 18-year-old's death witnessed in parts of coastal Karnataka, the Siddaramaiah government has chose to hand over the case to the central agency. Reddy said it was part of the BJP's strategy to politicise deaths and then go silent when investigations reveal no blame on the government's part. "Why is the government soft on PFI and not banning it", she asked. The BJP leaders wereheeding to the advise of party President Amit Shah to create troubleand invite police action. "So, we want the CBI to probe the case", he said.
