Samsung announces new Notebook 9 series powered by Windows 10

South Korea's actually getting a jump-start on them this month, which is likely why the company opted to jump the gun on CES by a few weeks - once the announcement's out, after all, you can't put that toothpaste back in the tube. The 13.3-inch model comes with an integrated Intel HD Graphics, while the larger 15-inch model can be configured to come with an NVIDIA GeForce MX150 with 2GB of memory. Both the devices will be showcased during the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 that will be held in Las Vegas in early January.

While Samsung hasn't revealed all of the hardware details yet, it has revealed the changes these 2018 models bring versus the current versions. The notebook features a 360-degree hinge that allows for the notebook to be used in tablet mode or tent mode. As for the build, all four PCs are made using magnesium aluminium alloy called Metal12. The 75W Hexacell battery should include a battery life boost, but the company is only committing to a vague "always-on power", with fast charging support for when you need to top the battery up. The 13.3-inch model comes with one USB Type-C port, two USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI port and a Dollars card slot. The 15-inch model offers a wider selection of port including a Thunderbolt 3.0 port, two USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, one HDMI port and microSD card slot.

Samsung Notebook 9 Pen, on the other hand, features a convertible form factor with magnesium aluminum chassis, and is lightweight at 1 kilogram.

The Samsung Notebook 9 models come with tilting screens and can be configured with up to 16GB DDR4 RAM.

First up is the Notebook 9 Pen, a 2-in-1 device that comes with a built-in, refined S-Pen. The S Pen is inbuilt and designed for immediate use. Removing the stylus activates Air Command menu through which users can quickly access Autodesk Sketchook, Samsung Notes and S Pen shortcuts. All the four models will be powered by Intel 8th-gen Core i7 processors along with Intel Graphics. The front-facing IR camera supports facial authentication through Windows Hello. The premium device runs on Windows 10. As for ports, the Samsung Notebook 9 Pen comes with one USB Type-C port, one USB 3.0 port, one HDMI ports and a Dollars card slot.

As with Microsoft's Surface line, the Notebook 9 offerings can be somewhat tricky to navigate, but thankfully this year's new additions don't muddy the waters any further.
