Russian President Vladimir Putin says North Korean leader Kim Jong Un "won this round" in the latest standoff with the United States and South Korea over his nuclear and ballistic-missile programs.

"I probably have a very good relationship with Kim Jong-Un", Trump told The Wall Street Journal in an interview.

"I have relationships with people", Trump said in an Oval Office interview.

"You'll see that a lot with me", Trump said about his fiery tweets and nuclear missile threats.

Asked whether he has spoken with the North Korean leader, Trump told the newspaper: "I don't want to comment on it".

Direct talks between the USA president and Kim would be unprecedented.

"There's more orders being shipped there than anywhere else [in the U.S.] because of the threat", Jones said, adding that much of this uptick began after Kim Jong Un's regime threatened to strike the US territory of Guam in August--not long after Trump's infamous "fire and fury" threat toward North Korea.

A distinguished retired South Korean general warned that a US attack on North Korea would be met by well-armed soldiers fighting with religious fervor to defend their homeland.

North Korea will send a team down to PyeongChang, North Korean athletes and officials will preen before the world's media, and the biggest stories from the Games will not be who wins what but which North Koreans are shaking hands with which South Koreans, how honest their smiles are and exactly what they are murmuring to one another. "I just don't want to comment".

While they reached no consensus on Pyongyang's nuclear programme, the two countries did agree to have North Korea participate in the upcoming Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Chun, who lives just 35 miles from the border with North Korea, said that the U.S. would face a series of extreme challenges should they decide to go to war.

"I try to explain to the Americans - if we have to go into North Korea, it is not going to be like going into Iraq or Afghanistan. I like what I'm seeing", President Trump said Wednesday. The US has not officially engaged in direct talks with North Korea since the Six-Party Talks of the Bush administration. Technically, South Korea and the United States remain at war with North Korea after the Korean War ended in 1953 with an armistice instead of a peace treaty.

North Korea leader Kim Jong Un and his men review plans for a missile launch. In a significant breakthrough, the two Koreas agreed on talks between army officials in order to avoid unsafe military incidents.

Some countries, even friends of the United States, may be concerned that such methods could increase military tensions or be interpreted as an act of war by the isolated North.

North and South Korea held their first talks in two years on Tuesday.
