NFL forecast: Odds not in favor of Raiders' Del Rio

The Raiders made the move official after rumors were circulating about Del Rio's chances, and Mark Davis made it official with a statement as the team's owner.

Gruden previously coached the Raiders for four seasons from 1998 through 2001, with the team never finishing worse than 8-8 during that span.

In addition to Schefter's reports, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network has said Gruden is waiting to accept the Raiders offer until after the team interviews minority candidates to comply with the NFL's "Rooney Rule".

The Raiders likely won't be able to pry Gruden out of the ESPN booth until after Saturday afternoon's AFC Wild Card game between the No. 4 Kansas City Chiefs and the No. 5 Tennessee Titans.

It appears that the Oakland Raiders really want ESPN color commentator Jon Gruden to be back with their organization.

Gruden said Tuesday he understood the Raiders were going through the process of interviewing candidates but did not confirm he was on that list. I take a lot of phone calls from coaches, some others ... yeah, sometimes owners.

Vea, the Pac-12 defensive player of the year, said he did give some consideration to sitting out the Fiesta Bowl to protect his draft stock - a growing trend for top prospects around college football.

However, he said the decision ultimately comes down to what owner Mark Davis wants. "He's one of the rare people that I think has been away from the game but he's been as involved in the game as anybody, where he kind of is getting exposure, the ins and outs". According to Mehta, the Jets would not stop Morton from reuniting with the head coach after just one season on Todd Bowles' staff. He has yet to react to the report on his Twitter page; whatever he says (or doesn't say) will say plenty.

Del Rio became head coach in January 2015 and won 25 games and lost 23 in three seasons, including a 6-10 season this year.

Sure enough, as the 2017 regular season ended on Sunday, Gruden's name has been linked to an National Football League job: the Raiders.

Davis has always been intrigued about a second stint with Gruden but it seemed unlikely the franchise would be in for another change heading into this season. What have they got? Because of this, there is now some talk that Del Rio may be fired at the end of the season. "We wish them all the best".
