CES has often been the launchpad for several new technologies and this year, Samsung hopes to catapult the concept of modular TVs to the mainstream with an enormous 146-inch TV.

Sony tried to produce TVs made from the same basic technology back in 2012 but they proved too expensive to make en masse. According to Samsung, The Wall is "the world's first consumer modular MicroLED 146-inch TV".

It comes with a micro-LED display, which has been introduced as a superior alternative to OLED due to the fact that it offers both deep blacks and bright highlights.

This is because the display is actually composed of many smaller modules that can be arranged to form unusual dimensions - one example that was squat and super-wide was briefly shown at the presentation.

Hisense unveiled a 150in 4K TV projector system that can beam a picture onto its owner's wall. Like OLED, micro LED tech creates light and color right inside a TV's pixels themselves and thus doesn't require any sort of large, bulky LED backlight arrays.

Because each LED can turn on or off individually, MicroLED has the potential for infinite contrast, just like OLED TVs. In other words, aside from its ridiculous size, The Wall is as close to the ideal new TV as we've seen so far from any brand. It can transform into any size and delivers incredible brightness, color gamut, color volume and black levels.

The report goes on to say that some people who visited the "Qlounge" as it has been called, said the new QLED technology was the most impressive thing Samsung has to show in the private area.

Samsung is planning another press event in March, where more details about The Wall will be given. We're not expecting this giant's price tag to even remotely fit any ordinary home theater budget.
