Interested buyers can expect the fingerprint reader to be featured in Vivo's next phone, which will be announced early this year. We'll know more about the smartphone as we approach its launch. But as the competition became intense, Synaptics started to actively develop in-display fingerprint sensing technology, says TrendForce.
This technology will only work for phones that use OLED displays because the sensor looks through the spaces between subpixels from under the panel.
Its competitor Goodix, for instance, recently sent sample products to major mobile phone vendors for testing; Qualcomm cooperated with Vivo in developing ultrasonic fingerprint sensing in 2017; FPC, the Swedish biometric authentication solutions provider, released its ultrasonic fingerprint sensing technology at the end of 2017. "Today's showcase of a ready-to-produce in-display fingerprint scanning smartphone featuring an optical fingerprint sensor is a big leap forward in bringing consumers this long-awaited, futuristic mobile experience. We are very excited to make it available to consumers soon".
As expected, vivo is demonstrating the first smartphone with an in-screen fingerprint sensor right here at CES 2018.

In the future, Synaptics wants to make the phone's entire screen a fingerprint sensor. Last month, though, Synaptics, the company behind many of your laptop's trackpads and other input devices, unveiled an in-screen fingerprint sensor called the Clear ID (pictured). Many big-name technology companies, such as Samsung and Apple, have attempted to protect their consumers by offering various methods in order to lock your phone and ultimately keep your private information safe. Simply place your finger on the icon and the phone unlocks. If you wake the phone with the power button, then the display will show a lock screen and will unlock the device straight into your home screen. The active engagements of these companies indicate in-display fingerprint sensing will bring about a new trend for smartphones.
