Fodder scam: Lalu Prasad moves Jharkhand High Court against conviction, seeks bail

Taking note of news reports, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday ordered a probe into allegations of government officials calling up a CBI special judge to seek favours for fodder scam convict and RJD chief Lalu Prasad.

"Lalu is in jail to save his illegally acquired wealth". The case relates to the alleged fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 356.2 million from the Chaibasa treasury in the 1990s when he was the chief minister of undivided Bihar.

Seeking leniency because the Makar Sankranti festival was around the corner, on Sunday, "We celebrate it in a grand eating dahi churra", Lalu Yadav said, trying to be his persuasive best.

The RJD, however, jumped to its leader's defence, insisting the presence of the two - Lakshman Mahto and Madan Yadav - was "conicidental".

Sources said Mahto and Madan Yadav, both residents of Jharkhand, had moved into a house in Ranchi a few weeks before the December 23 CBI special court verdict against Lalu Yadav.

"They abused me and assaulted me when I asked them to return my money which they had borrowed".

JD (U) also said that after Lalu's jail term begins, his party will disintegrate soon, as senior leaders like Jagdanand Singh, Shivanand Tiwari, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Abdul Bard Siddiqui and Ramchandra Purve won't accept a non-matriculate leader like Tejaswi Yadav as their leader. "They also stole Rs 10,000 from my shirt's pocket" Sumit Yadav said in his FIR against Madan Yadav and Mahto.

The RJD chief has spent nearly a fortnight in the Bisra Munda Jail in Ranchi.

The special CBI court of Shiv Pal Singh had on January 6 handed down three-and-a-half years prison term to Lalu in the case pertaining to illegal withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from Deoghar treasury between 1991 and 1994, in the second of the five fodder scam cases against him.
