According to a HUD report, homelessness declined in MA in 2017 compared to 2016.

Los Angeles County's 55,188 number of homeless people in 2017 was behind only New York City's 76,501, according to the 2017 Annual Homeless Assessment Report to Congress by HUD.

According to HUD's statistics, last year, there were nearly 554,000 homeless Americans, an increase of.7 percent from last year with much of that increase taking place in California. On the other hand, the report said, veteran homelessness decreased 4.1 percent and chronic homelessness decreased by 35.9 percent.

HUD estimates there were 553,742 persons experiencing homelessness on a single night nationally in 2017, and increase of.7 percent since a year ago. These Continuums of Care will report these one-night "point-in-time counts" later in the year and will form the basis of HUD's 2018 national homeless estimate.
