Over at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the likes of Sony, Samsung and LG have all been showing off their advances in 8K technology, which packs 16 times the number of pixels into a display than standard HD. They're popping up in cars, in refrigerators, even in the bathroom mirror.
Korean, Japanese and Chinese TV makers usually use CES as a launch pad for the coming year and 2018 seems to be no different.
Samsung this year demonstrated that it has been able to shrink the size of the LEDs to a point where the technology makes sense for large home displays, and in particular, the company is planning to offer a 146-inch 4K unit it calls "The Wall."
The modular technology behind The Wall allows the TV to be customised to individual viewing room needs.
Among Samsung's various CES announcements were some innovative new TVs.
The 146-inch TV and created to take up an entire wall with the latest technology making a flawless picture on the huge screen. As the world's first consumer modular MicroLED television, "The Wall" represents another breakthrough. And doing so won't compromise the display's quality, according to Samsung.
The 8K up-conversion is, likely, one small step on the path forward for TVs.

Based on my impressions, The Wall and MicroLED very much challenge OLED for TV picture supremacy. "But the rest of the wall can continue to display other things: family memories, simulated decor, or the avatars of family members watching remotely". It will be available later this year.
LG's 2018 OLEDs are also packing HLG, HDR10 and Dolby Vision varieties of HDR - and, uniquely for a TV manufacturer, Technicolor's Advanced HDR.
"Consumers are telling us it is hard and confusing to try to find what they want to watch", he said.
Other TVs also have voice control features.
Though, LG has still not proposed a price line for its brand new model- 88-inch 8K TV (OLED) television, but we can surely believe to see this 1 expense tens of 1000's of dollars, which is quite a fair deal.
This process will continue long after the television is released out into the wild, too, with Samsung periodically rolling out software updates to give the Q9S the freshest version of the algorithm.
