Antonio Conte Says Fatigue, not Tactics Behind Chelsea Struggles

It is has been evident for a while now that Antonio Conte is not entirely content with the squad that he has at his disposal, but that's no excuse for our recent shortfalls.

Misfiring Chelsea missed the chance to climb into second place in the English Premier League by drawing 0-0 at home to 10-man Leicester on Sunday (NZ time).

MF N'Golo Kante, 7 - As expected, up against his former club, Kante put in a tigerish display and it was just as well as he did the work of three men in Chelsea's midfield, pulling up the slack of Fabregas and Tiemoue Bakayoko when Leicester pressed.

Even the 68th minute dismissal of Leicester defender Ben Chilwell for two bookings in quick succession couldn't lift lethargic Chelsea, who were out-played in the first half and couldn't make their numerical advantage count at the end of the second period.

The result represented the third goalless stalemate in the space of a week for the Blues, who were held both by Arsenal in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup in midweek and by Championship side Norwich City in the FA Cup last weekend.

"We played with nearly the same players as against Arsenal".

"I think we played with a lot of top players against Arsenal, and then again today against a very good team", Conte told the BBC.

"We played with nearly the same players as against Arsenal. I saw many, many players very exhausted". "I sleep very well".

The Chelsea manager was heavily criticised by his own fans for substituting Eden Hazard for the tenth time this season and his gamble failed to pay off as replacements Willian and Pedro were unable to engineer a breakthrough.

There was dismay throughout another performance which lacked the familiar cutting edge of Conte's champions and there were boos around the ground at full-time.

Four successive draws in all competitions have featured Chelsea missing a host of chances to kill off opponents, with Spain striker Alvaro Morata completely out of form.

With Leicester in control and looking the most likely of the two teams to score, the last thing they would have needed was to be reduced to 10 men.

Earlier this week Antonio Conte reiterated his commitment to Chelsea as he insisted he will not walk away from the club at the end of the season. Conte took a team that finished tenth and turned them into title-winners.

"We didn't suffer defensively". At the same time we're showing not great quality in our finishing.

"We have to try to improve in this aspect, but the problem is not just for Morata, or [Michy] Batshuayi when he plays".
