In a joint press conference addressed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Akshay Kumar on January 19, the duo announced that on the mutual ground, Akshay's film will be releasing on February 9 whereas Padmaavat will enjoy a single film release in theatres on January 25. Makers of Padman seemed very firm on their decision of not moving their release despite of the fact that they knew Padmaavat was going to release on the same date but their confidence was on 120th floor of Akshay Kumar's building and it all finally came crashing down.

Bhansali, on the other hand, expressed his gratitude towards Akshay and thanked him for allowing his film to have a solo release on January 25.

Twinkle said, "I hope this movie becomes a movement: where women are no longer held back or shamed by their biological functions".

Thus, now Padman will clash with Neeraj Pandey's spy thriller Aiyaary and Luv Ranjan's romantic comedy Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. Akshay Kumar's film will now release on 9 Feb 2018.
