About 13 people were injured, five seriously, when a train failed to brake and hit a barrier at Richmond in Sydney's north-west this morning.

The accident happened at Richmond station round 10am, but it took almost an hour to free the trapped.

At least six ambulances and a helicopter were at the scene, according to the ABC.
