According to a report published on Wednesday, Brittney Lewis - a former model - tells TheWrap she was drugged and sexually assaulted by the magician back in 1988. Lewis tells TheWrap that she met Copperfield in September 1998 in Atami, Japan, where she competed in the "Look of the Year" modeling contest in which he was serving as a judge. She said she made it clear to the then 32-year-old that she wasn't interested in a romantic relationship.

Although Copperfield has not responded to the new set of allegations, he did issue a statement Wednesday calling the #MeToo movement "crucial and long overdue", along with urging people to be wary of allegations.

'I've lived with years of news reports about me being accused of fabricated, heinous acts, with few telling the story of the accuser getting arrested, and my innocence, ' he said, referring to Carroll's 2010 guilty plea to obstructing a police officer.

Without naming his accusers, Copperfield's statement notes, "We all want people who feel they've been victims of sexual misconduct to be empowered, and as a rule we should listen, so more will feel comfortable coming forward".

Copperfield alluded to a case from 2007 in which a different woman falsely accused him of assault and was subsequently charged and arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The claims resulted in an FBI investigation of Copperfield but the case was closed and Carroll dropped a lawsuit, after which she was charged with making false sexual assault accusations against another man. Copperfield has not released an additional statement directly addressing the latest allegation.

After taking a few sips of her drink, Lewis says she blacked out but slightly remembers being carried into a cab, and him inside her hotel room where he wore a black robe with shoulder pads.

I started off by setting an alarm using Alexa, then shut down my house's entire internet connection. Or, if you only want to call up your friend who lives elsewhere, you will need to have one each.

A Copperfield spokeswoman, Staci Wolfe, declined to comment on Lewis' account.

The next morning, "he wanted me to know that nothing happened because I was underage", Lewis was quoted as saying. Lewis recalled of the incident: 'I asked, "What are you doing?" She claims he specifically told her, "I didn't enter you". "He was kissing my face and then I remember him starting to go down on my body with his face".

She added: "I remember my clothes being taken off".

After Lewis flew in from Utah, she said Copperfield arranged for her to stay at a hotel with him in adjoining rooms.

Copperfield also seemed to reference the current allegations, writing: "So while I weather another storm, I want the (Me Too) movement to continue to flourish".

The website said it had spoken to other relations of Lewis's, including her husband and her ex-husband, who all corroborated that Lewis had told them about her accusations "decades ago".

This isn't the first time Lewis says she has spoken up about the incident. Lewis said she has no plans to pursue and criminal or civil suit against Copperfield, but she wouldn't be able to anyway; the statute of limitations is up.
