Chidambaram, former finance minister and sitting member of Rajya Sabha. On his plea seeking separate cell and protection in Tihar Jail, the court said the jail manual would be followed.

CBI counsel V K Sharma opposed the application for a separate cell and bathroom saying there was no threat to Karti. "Some of the accused related to those cases are lodged in Tihar so I apprehend a great threat to my security", he said. Today the CBI would appraise the court about the fresh details that have cropped up following the questioning of Karti's chartered accountant, Bhaskararaman.

The interim relief from "any coercive action" taken by the ED came a day after the Supreme Court transferred to the Delhi High Court, his plea seeking quashing of summons issued by the probe agency.

Karti was arrested on his return from the United Kingdom in connection with the FIR lodged on 15 May.

As per reports, the CBI had initially alleged that Karti received Rs 10 lakh as bribe for the FIPB clearance.
