Currently, he has been sent to judicial custody till March 25 in the INX Media Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance case.

"His father P Chidambaram has dealt with stringent penal laws including TADA and MCOCA, posing a huge security threat to Karti". He also invoked the death of biscuit baron Rajan Pillai in 1995 and said that he did not want to be exposed to attacks. Now his bail plea will be heard on March 15. Also, the Court directed the police to ensure that Karti gets adequate security inside the jail.

A futile last ditch effort was made by Karti Chidambaram on Monday when he cited grave threat to his safety and security in Tihar jail, by virtue of being the son of P. Chidambaram, former finance minister and sitting member of Rajya Sabha. On his plea seeking separate cell and protection in Tihar Jail, the court said the jail manual would be followed.

CBI counsel V K Sharma opposed the application for a separate cell and bathroom saying there was no threat to Karti. "Some of the accused related to those cases are lodged in Tihar so I apprehend a great threat to my security", he said. Today the CBI would appraise the court about the fresh details that have cropped up following the questioning of Karti's chartered accountant, Bhaskararaman.
