Apple Music reaches 38 million subscribers

Apple Inc's streaming music service now has 38 million paid subscribers, up from 36 million in February, the company said on Monday. In Israel, Spotify faces competition from global streaming services such as Apple Music, Deezer, and Tidal, as well as local services offered by Israel-based cellular carriers. The company held a festive launch event this morning attended by some of the company's senior executives.

The service is free for the first month and then is R59.99 per month after the trial for the premium membership.

By comparison, industry leader Spotify had 71 million paying subscribers as of December 2017, Amazon Music Unlimited has 16 million paying customers and Internet radio pioneer Pandora has just 5.48 million total subscribers according to Reuters. The free service has adverts that will play every few songs, and does not let users download content or give them access to their smart playlists.

Israel is the 62nd country in which Spotify will become available. The premium service will be priced at $6 (NIS 19.9) per month and include tracks by local and worldwide artists as well as playlists compiled by local radio stations and celebrities.

The premium subscription lets users play music ad -free as well as download up to 3333 songs offline on up to three devices to listen to when they don't want to use data to stream.
