2003. But Meg, the reluctant, bespectacled heroine of Madeleine L'Engle's classic "A Wrinkle in Time", has been with us, and on the shelves of middle-schoolers, since 1962. Still, a part of me still wishes "A Wrinkle in Time" was better than it is, if only because I know that the potential for it to be great was there, but settled at being merely fine. In the A Wrinkle in Time book, Meg and Charles Wallace have twin, 10-year-old brothers named Sandy and Dennys. Who, and Mrs. Which help Meg on her journey and guide her with scriptures like 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 and John 1:5.
According to The Washington Post, A Wrinkle In Time was hated by publishers. Because for all its clumsiness, the mere miracle that Wrinkle in Time exists should never be forgotten. We talked to Lee about when and why that change happened. I think that's the best way to put it.
On top of that, he mentioned the quality of her work and her efforts to improve diversity on her sets, including her decision to hire all-woman directors and ladies for her important creative roles for season one of her OWN Network show Queen Sugar, something she plans to continue in season two. While on Ixchel, Meg meets an eye-less alien named Aunt Beast who she communicates with telepathically.
If taken as an adaptation, however, the film falls flat. However, there may be a chance that it will make it into a deleted scene, so that's something!
As well as the current movies being made, two brand new trilogies outside the current saga were announced to be in production with Johnson helming one and "Game of Thrones" producers D.B Weiss and David Benioff in charge of the second. Perhaps the most obvious, and widely discussed, innovation by Ms. DuVernay concerns the race of the main characters.
After an initial stay on the ravishing planet Uriel, and a visit to the Happy Medium (a comic Zach Galifianakis, clad, as he notes, in earth tones), the kids end up on the frightening planet of Camazotz, ruled by the dark force called It. The novel was first adapted into a film in 2003, also by Disney, but this film was a dud with less than impressive acting and special effects.
