Case Keenum To Sign With The Denver Broncos

Keenum was 11-3 as a starter last season for the 13-3 Vikings.

Quarterback Case Keenum is reportedly expected to sign with the Denver Broncos when free agency officially opens on Wednesday.

Apparently, the Denver Broncos were not as interested in quarterback Kirk Cousins as most people were led to believe. The Vikings are considered the favorite for Cousins with the New York Jets and Arizona also in the mix.

The Vikings decided not to apply the franchise tag to Keenum back in February, allowing him to become a free agent.

According to Jeff Legwold of ESPN, the Broncos expressed interest not only in Cousins but in Keenum's former teammate Teddy Bridgwater too. Should there still be in-demand quarterbacks on the board when the Broncos are on the clock with the fifth pick, they could collect a plethora of picks from a team looking to trade up to snag the one of them.

All three quarterbacks were draft picks by Elway, the Hall of Fame quarterback who has only had success at quarterback in free agency. At the time, Gary Kubiak was Houston's head coach and Vance Joseph was the team's defensive backs coach.

The Broncos went 5-11 last season and have missed the playoffs each of the past two years after winning Super Bowl 50 in the 2015 season.

Keenum would have veterans Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders as his targets in Denver after Elway chose not to release either of the expensive wide receivers.

Siemian, Lynch and Chad Kelly, a seventh-rounder past year who sat out his rookie season with injuries, remain on the roster. "When you get opportunities like this, you've got to take advantage of them, so we're going to take advantage of it".

Keenum, 30, brings playoff experience, strong leadership, and lingering questions about whether last season was the start of a career renaissance or an aberration. There were some things that we should have done, that we should have done differently that we didn't do.
